How to Exercise While You Travel

When you are traveling it can be easy to forget about any diet or workout regimen you had back home. Time is precious when you travel and you don't want a minute to be wasted. I am an advocate of loosening the reigns when you are traveling, don't be too stressed about those extra calories and that lost workout, but then again I'm kind of like that in every day life as well. So if you want to keep up your workout routine while  you travel but don't know how here are a few tips.

1. Do your research. Before you leave research if their are any places that offer cheap drop-in rates for exercise classes or to use the gym equipment. Or maybe there is a public park near-by that has free-to-use workout equipment installed. Another thing to do would to be to ask someone at your hotel/hostel, I'm sure your not the first person that has wanted to know.

2. Take a long walk in the morning. It will start your day off right with a nice 20-30 minute walk, and it will be a great way to experience the sights and sounds of the city.

3. Plan adventurous activities. Rent a bike for the day. Go kayaking. Take a hike. Learn to surf. Any of these activities would be a fun experience and a workout at the same time.

4. Make the most of your time. HIIT workouts, which stand for high intensity interval training, consist of short bouts of all-out challenging workouts with a quick rest period or less intense workout. Science is proving that these short 10-15 workouts may be more beneficial to losing weight than traditional longer workouts. The best thing about HIIT workouts is they can be done anywhere, they need practically no space and no equipment. They are also great because you can customize these workouts yourself just using any full-body workout move. Here is an example of a typical HIIT workout. (I would like to preface this by saying I am not an exercise professional this is just my personal opinion from research on numerous fitness websites and magazines.)

I find when traveling that I am pretty active anyway, so I don't miss the exercise. I fill my time with hikes and exploring :)
